TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, on Tuesday evening announced the gradual lifting of the emergency public activity restriction (emergency PPKM) will be applied on July 26 if Covid-19 cases continue to drop.
“If logged cases continue to drop, on July 26 the government will reopen [public activity restrictions] gradually,” the President said in a video announcement on July 20.
He claims that state officials are constantly monitoring how restriction policies are enforced in the field and the dynamics that follow it.
“We are always monitoring and understanding the dynamics in the field and listening to the voices from those who are affected by the PPKM,” said Jokowi.
The former Surakarta and Jakarta Governor asserted that the emergency public restriction imposed on July 3 was inevitable as it is the viable option to reduce the viral spread of the latest Covid-19 strain, which has a more aggressive infection rate that drove healthcare facilities to near collapse due to the surge of patients.
Based on official data, President Jokowi claims the number of cases and hospital bed occupancy rate since the emergency PPKM’s enforcement on July 3 had decreased.
