TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo continues to encourage the Indonesian people to get their share of Covid-19 vaccine shots and insists that the best vaccines currently available in the country is the best option for the public.
The President went to social media to express this: “What is the best vaccine for Covid-19? The answer is simple, the best vaccine is the one that is already available and accessible for you,” Jokowi wrote in his latest Instagram post on July 19.
The Indonesian Health Ministry along with other Ministries have obtained a number of vaccine brands for the country’s mass-vaccination program with Sinovac the earliest vaccine available in the country followed by Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, and Moderna. The government will reportedly soon obtain the Pfizer vaccine.
The Sinovac vaccine has been injected into the most number of people as it was the most available option early in the year. Indonesia has also purchased vaccine bulks from the Chinese firm that will be turned into readily-used vaccines by state-owned pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma.
The President encourages people to take the vaccines while practicing proper health protocols.
The government recently claimed that Bali had reached 81 percent vaccination rate while the capital city of Jakarta logged 72 percent. The president is optimistic that herd immunity will be reached soon in the two regions.
