TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani in a written statement on Sunday urged the government to pay close attention on fixing its public communication amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in communicating its views and policies regarding the emergency pubic activity restriction or ‘emergency PPKM.’
“Fix the public communication, which includes who holds the command for communication especially regarding the government’s decisions,” said the DPR speaker in a statement on July 18.
Sharing the same tone as her, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo also reminded government members to be more sensitive in communicating about the pandemic during a limited meeting on Friday.
She also specifically mentioned that the government must improve how they elaborate their messages to the public in a way that is clear, on point, and does not imply communication distortion on how government Covid-19 policy derivatives are delivered.
Maharani insists that the public should be provided with useful and beneficial information regarding treatment locations for Covid-19 patients, people who are undergoing self-isolation, and useful information on how to obtain medicines and oxygens.
The former Minister regrets a number of statements issued by State Officials that became a polemic for the past days, which she believes is counterproductive in the handling of the pandemic.
