Emergency PPKM; Tangerang City Turns Off Street Lights in Several Areas

15 July 2021 09:36 WIB

The Madiun City Hall area is seen without public street lighting when the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) was implemented in Madiun City, East Java, Monday night, January 11, 2021. The Madiun City Government implemented PPKM, among others by turning off public street lighting in a number of areas starting at 19:00, set the opening hours of the plaza until 19:00, and restaurants, stalls, street vendors, and shops until 21:00 in order to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. TEMPO.CO, Tangerang The Tangerang City Government, Banten, decided to switch off the public street lights at a number of points at night during the emergency state of social restriction or Emergency PPKM

“The outage of street lighting is based on the result of the coordination meeting with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the agreement with the city Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Communication Forum) in a bid to break the chain of Covid-19 spread,” said Tangerang City Secretary, Herman Suwarman, in a press release in Tangerang, Wednesday night, July 14.

According to him, many residents still gathered just to talk at night. If the people's mobility drops, he added, Covid-19 cases will also decrease.

Herman explained the blackout would be carried out in several locations that potentially caused crowds, including Jalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Soleh Ali, Maulana Hasanudin, Hasyim Ashari, Perumnas area, Pasar Anyar, and Jalan Satria Sudirman.

“Public street lighting in Tangerang City is turned off during the Emergency PPKM period starting 8 p.m. until morning,” he announced.

“I hope people understand the dangers of Covid-19. If there is no urgent need, do not leave home. If it is urgent, apply health protocols strictly,” said Herman.
