TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) researcher Nailul Huda l observed that the collaboration between Gojek and AirAsia Group would produce positive impacts on the growth of the super apps in Thailand and Southeast Asia markets.
According to him, business lines such as online transportation, logistics, and e-commerce services developed by each company would continue growing.
“The collaboration with AirAsia will strengthen Gojek’s business to expand its presence not only in Thailand but in other ASEAN countries,” said Nailul in a written statement on Tuesday, July 13.
As widely reported, AirAsia Digital took over Gojek’s operation in Thailand. This way, Indonesia’s on-demand and payment service would still reap benefits from its business growth in Thailand through the share ownership in AirAsia Group, while focusing to increase investment in its Singapore and Vietnam operations.
This latest collaboration, Nailul argued, would be a strategic way for Gojek to face tough competition in the online transportation and food delivery service sector, particularly with Grab. With this stronger competitiveness, Gojek’s business would grow stronger in Southeast Asia markets, he added.
Nailul went on to say that Gojek’s decision to increase investment in Singapore and Vietnam was also believed to bring huge impacts, including on its valuation in line with the growing market in Southeast Asia.
