TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia on Tuesday night, July 13, received around 3.4 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the COVAX Facility.
“With the arrival of 3,476,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the Covax Facility, Indonesia has secured a total of 137,611,540 doses of vaccine, both in the form of raw materials (bulk) and ready-to-use vaccines,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi in a statement.
She explained that in the next few days, Indonesia will also receive Covid-19 vaccines from the U.S. through the COVAX Facility's dose-sharing scheme and from Japan through the bilateral scheme.
According to Retno, the COVAX Facility faced challenges in the vaccine supply which caused delays in the delivery, including to Indonesia. “In the midst of all these challenges, COVAX continues to work hard so that vaccine supply for all countries, especially developing countries, can be increased,” she added.
Retno hoped that the supply will be better in the future. The hike in supply from the COVAX Facility was also possible following the collaboration between GAVI, Sinovac, and Sinopharm which have obtained Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from WHO.
Apart from AstraZeneca, Indonesia had also received 1.4 million doses of the ready-to-use Sinopharm vaccine. This was the third arrival outside of the United Arab Emirates' donation.
