TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government planned to mobilize more human resources, both nurses and doctors. The addition of health workers was carried out to prepare for the worst scenario amid the rising cases of Covid-19.
“We will recruit nurses and doctors who have just graduated, and they will be trained first for three days,” said Luhut on Tuesday, July 13.
He added that the government provided proper facilities for volunteers. They would also receive health insurance or BPJS Kesehatan, work accident insurance, and communication costs.
Additionally, Luhut said the hospital capacity continued to be increased. The government planned to convert beds in all hospitals in Java-Bali up to 40-50 percent into intensive care units for Covid-19 patients. However, this plan was excluded for Jakarta because the city's room capacity was not sufficient.
The government would then set up more field and emergency hospitals that would be assisted by the military (TNI). “I ask for help from the TNI, BNPB (National Disaster Mitigation Agency), and the Health Ministry to keep looking for places that will be used as field and emergency hospitals,” Luhut said.
