TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Health Ministry on Tuesday said that the administraton of the third vaccine dose, or the vaccine booster, for health workers would be a safe option.
The ministry defended that official medical studies that support the third dose vaccination do available, despite the World Health Organization (WHO) yet to recommend the plan.
Health Ministry’s vaccination spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi on Tuesday said the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) already recommended the administration of the third vaccine dose for healthcare workers that have received complete vaccine doses.

According to Nadia, the vaccine booster was initially pitched by the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) and has been discussed at the global level by the WHO’s vaccination and immunization joint committee.
She said a number of clinical trial studies showed positive results and found that vaccine boosters will be able to increase the antibody titer to a higher level of protection. The WHO, Nadia said, has not issued any recommendations for the third covid shot as the organization is still focusing on how the access to Covid-19 vaccines available globally.
