TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the government would continue to step up its vaccination program. Beginning July 2021, the government has been striving to administer one million doses of vaccine daily, as per the President’s order.
Sri said all of the nation’s resources would be exerted for vaccination efforts, including the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), which would be asked to help regional governments in making the program a success.
Sri added the government even aimed at two million vaccinations per day in August 2021 to achieve herd immunity in the country.
“And so that the trade off between economic recovery and people’s mobility does not always cause an increase in COVID-19 cases,” she said in a meeting with the House’s Budget Committee on Monday, July 12, 2021.
Sri added vaccinations were necessary so that the increase in COVID-19 cases was not identical with the number of patients who went to hospital and then died.
“So economic activities can relatively proceed. The key to this is vaccinations and health discipline,” Sri Mulyani said.
