TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry on Thursday stated that 600 oxygen concentrators from China are ready to enter Indonesia. The tools are imported by Indorama through a business-to-business mechanism, following the oxygen shortage for the past two weeks.
“Some of them (the oxygen concentrators) are on their way, we ordered 600 from Indorama. It would need some time to arrive in Indonesia due to the shipment issues,” said the Ministry’s director general of chemical industries, pharmacy, and textile, Fridy Juwono, to Tempo on July 8.
He explained that Indorama will donate the oxygen concentrators to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) which will be distributed to hospitals and other health facilities.
Indonesia is in the process of finalizing a partnership with China in the procurement of oxygen concentrators while also being in early talks with Singapore. The main reason Indonesia has decided to import the tools from China instead of Europe is mainly due to the distance.
“China is a production hub with the closest distance. In terms of availability, China produces and distributes it. Europe is too far,” said Fridy.
