Indonesia's Covid-19 Mitigation 'Not to be Underestimated', Says Luhut

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on Tuesday said the government has prepared and distributed additional oxygen supply if Covid-19 cases continue to rise up to 60,000-70,000 cases per day.

“We mobilize everything we have. Don’t underestimate Indonesia and think that the Covid-19 issue cannot be handled,” said the minister on July 6.

In the press conference held virtually, Pandjaitan said that the government has calculated the possibility that daily cases could potentially jump to 40,000-50,000, or even to 60,000-70,000 in the worst case scenario.

However, he insistd that the government has anticipated this scenario by preparing mitigation attempts to prevent it. Luhut Pandjaitan also said bilateral communication with Singapore has been conducted upon importing 10,000 oxygen concentrators that will be useful in treating Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms.

For the meantime, he said industrial oxygen supplies will be entirely allocated for medical purposes. The minister admitted that hospitals nearly ran out of supplies in the past days.
