TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government kicked off Covid-19 vaccination for children today, July 1, 2021. Governor Anies Baswedan said the vaccine is administered to children aged 12-17.
“This is a historic day for Indonesian children, especially children in Jakarta,” said Anies today while monitoring the vaccine program in State Senior High School or SMAN 20 in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta.
Anies was accompanied by the Jakarta Military Commander, Navy Commander, and Metro Jaya Police Chief. The vaccination was held on the second floor of the school building.
Three classes were opened for screening, vaccination, and observation process. Around 100 students of SMAN 20 took part in the program. They were required to bring a family card and permission letter from their parents to get inoculated.
Anies Baswedan also called on parents to order their children to join the vaccination. “This is for all of us to protect our children from Covid-19,” he said.
Jakarta Health Agency Head Widyastuti said children would receive the Sinovac vaccine. The agency, she added, would use a school-based vaccination strategy in providing Covid-19 vaccination for children. “Because the mobilization and data integration is easier,” she said.
