TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry urged regional governments to immediately commence the third phase of Covid-19 vaccination starting today, July 1, 2021, through a circular number HK.02.02/I/1727/2021. The third phase of the vaccination targets vulnerable people and the general public, as well as children aged 12-17.
The ministry's Acting Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, asked all health offices in provinces, regencies, and cities to submit the circular to hospital directors and heads of healthcare facilities that administer Covid-19 vaccines.
“To implement efforts in accelerating the third phase of Covid-19 vaccination for all vulnerable groups and the general public aged 18 years and over starting July 1, 2021,” as quoted from the circular signed by Maxi on June 30, 2021.
The Health Ministry reported that as of June 29, more than 28 million people had received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines, and more than 13 million people had been fully vaccinated. The Health Ministry decided to administer vaccines to children given the rising number of positive cases among people aged below 18.
The Covid-19 vaccination can be provided to children aged 12-17 based on the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization’s (ITAGI) recommendation and the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency’s (BPOM) emergency use authorization for the use of Sinovac for children aged 12 and above dated June 27, 2021.
