Jakarta Police Closely Monitoring Oxygen Supplies

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police criminal investigation Director, Commissioner Auliansyah Lubis, warned the medical oxygen producers against taking economic advantage from the scarcity of O2 supply due to the Covid-19 case surge.
“I expect no one (the oxygen producers) would try to hoard or increase prices as we are closely monitoring,” said Auliansyah at the Metro Jaya Police headquarters on June 30.
The police commissioner said that law enforcers have coordinated with the oxygen producers. If there is an increase in market prices, it will likely be caused by the retailers or individual salespeople that might hoard the medical necessity.
The demand for medical oxygen supply in Jakarta’s Pramuka Market is currently on the rise following the Covid-19 case surge. It caused a slight increase in the selling price.
Head of the Pharmaceutical Traders Association of Pramuka Market, Edy Haryanto, said the price increase has indeed happened but he did not detail the amount of the price increase. He claimed the supply is currently enough to meet the current demands.
