TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially appointed Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Pandjaitan, as the coordinator of the tougher Covid-19 restriction touted as the ‘emergency public activity restriction enforcement’ (PPKM | PPKM darurat).
This was confirmed by the ministry spokesperson Jodi Mahardi. The emergency public restriction will be imposed on the islands of Java and Bali.
“That is correct, the minister (Luhut Pandjaitan) has been appointed by President Jokowi as the coordinator of the PPKM darurat for Java and Bali,” the spokesperson confirmed in a text message on Tuesday, June 29.
He further explained that the government is currently formulating the policy for the emergency restriction amidst surging Covid-19 cases in the country’s most populous islands.
The policy will effectively restrict the operational hours of business sectors such as supermarkets, malls, and other essential sectors and impose tougher health protocols.
Jodi also called for people to avert panicking following the initial news about this policy that spread through WhatsApp.
