TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian steelmaker Krakatau Steel is set to help supply oxygen for the medical facilities in the province of Banten and Jakarta, following a surge in Covid-19 cases, Antaranews reported.
The company’s president director, Silmy Karim, on Sunday, June 27, claimed that he was approached by coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investments, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, for this specific request.
“After we checked Krakatau Steel’s oxygen factory in Cilegon, we distributed them to regions that need them the most for free,” the Krakatau Steel boss mentioned in his statement on June 29.
Initially, the steel company produced oxygen to supply the steel industry factory production lines. Krakatau Steel’s oxygen demands that are distributed from the company’s PGI amount to 5,000 NM3 per hour.
“The company’s oxygen factory can fill 19 oxygen canisters simultaneously within 30 minutes which means 300 canisters can be filled in half a day,” said the Krakatau Steel boss. “This is more about humanity and has no commercial interests.”
