TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on Monday, June 28, that the Covid-19 pandemic in the capital city has not yet reached its peak.
In fact, he opined that the hike in new positive cases is still continuing.
“If we look at the projections of experts, this number [of new infections] has the potential to be even higher,” said Anies in a live broadcast on TVOne on Monday night, June 28, 2021.
Anies said Jakarta will pass the peak period if there is a slowdown in the trend of new infections. However, Jakarta keeps recording a high number of new cases.
He said the surge in cases in the capital occurred since the end of May 2021. In the three weeks of June, he added, there has been a dramatic increase.
On this basis, Anies underlined that the community and the government must work together to suppress the virus transmission.
The local government continues to intensify 3T (tracing, testing, and treatment), while the community maintains discipline in complying with the 3M health protocols (wearing face masks, maintaining distance from each other, and washing hands regularly).
“That way, we can both prevent a spike, because we are dealing with Covid-19 that is different from a few months ago,” said Anies Baswedan.
