Children and Teens Exposed to Covid-19 Increase, Says Jakarta Official

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Agency’s head of disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia, in a statement on Friday, June 25, said the Covid-19 trend among youths aged 18 years and below continues to rise. Fifteen percent of 7,505 confirmed cases on Thursday was from this demographic.
She elaborated that 830 cases logged in Thursday came from the 6-18 years old demographic, 282 cases from the 0-5 years old group, while 5,775 cases came from the age group of 19-59 and 618 cases came from 60 years old and above.
In her written statement, Oktavia strongly urged parents to prevent their children from conducting unnecessary activities in public areas.
Jakarta recorded yet another unprecedented number of active Covid-19 cases with 7,505 daily cases on Thursday. The highest number is in East Jakarta with 2,310 cases.
Until June 24, the capital city has logged 40,900 cases with most of the Covid-19 patients undergoing hospital treatment and self isolation. The number of burials under the coronavirus protocol also surged with 150 funerals on June 22 and 180 the day after.
