Indonesia Records World's Highest Single-Day Rise in Covid-19 Cases

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As of Thursday, June 24, Indonesia reported 20,574 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, which was the world’s highest single-day rise. The number jumped from previously around 13,000-14,000 per day.
Referring to the worldometers.info website, Indonesia ranked first in the daily case record, surpassing Russia with 20,182 new cases, Iran with 11,734 new cases, the Philippines with 6,043 new cases, and Malaysia with 5,841 new cases.
Based on the Health Ministry’s data as of 12:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the figure was obtained from testing 136,896 specimens.
Jakarta contributed the highest rise with 7,505 new cases, followed by Central Java with 4,384 new cases, West Java with 3,053 new cases, East Java with 945 new cases, and Yogyakarta with 791 new cases.
However, the highest number of deaths was reported by West Java with 82 cases, then Central Java with 78 cases, East Java with 51 cases, Jakarta with 50 cases, and Yogyakarta with 11 cases.
Thus, Indonesia’s total caseload reached 2,053,995, bringing the country in 17th place in case numbers. The total number of deaths related to Covid-19, meanwhile, reached 55,949 after 355 more deaths reported today. The country’s death toll also ranked 17 in the world, according to the same data.
