TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cakung Sectoral Police Chief Commissioner, Satria Darma, said that 200 supporters of Rizieq Shihab were taken to the East Jakarta Police Office on Thursday afternoon, June 24. They were arrested as they were going to flock to the East Jakarta District Court.
“Some of them carry sharp weapons,” said Satria to Tempo on Thursday.
Today, hundreds of supporters of the former leader of the now-disbanded Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) came to the East Jakarta District Court to attend the verdict trial of the cleric in the false swab test case at Bogor’s Ummi Hospital.
A sympathizer said he visited the court because he thought the public prosecutor insulted Rizieq’s title as the Grand Imam during the previous trial.
Hundreds of Rizieq’s supporters clashed with the police as the road access was blocked on Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai, East Jakarta, near the location of the Court at around 10 a.m. The police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Earlier reported, the panel of judges of the East Jakarta District Court sentenced Rizieq Shihab to 4 years imprisonment. He was found guilty of spreading false information about their swab test results taken at Ummi Hospital and obstructing the process of tracking Covid-19 transmission in Bogor.
