Anies Baswedan Sets Up More Covid-19 Hospitals as Capacity Nearly Full

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the capital city has 140 Covid-19 referral hospitals as of June 17, 2021. The city administration set up more referral hospitals to counteract the high number of new cases.
“There are 106 referral hospitals in early June,” said Anies at the City Hall on Tuesday, June 22.
As many as 32 of the 140 hospitals belong to the provincial government. Of which, 13 hospitals are designated only for Covid-19 patients.
“The other 19 hospitals also accommodate Covid-19 patients at more than 60 percent of its capacity,” he added.
With the addition of the hospitals, Jakarta has 8,524 isolation beds and 1,186 ICU rooms.
However, Anies said the number of new daily cases still grows too fast. “If the hospital capacity was not increased last week, the occupancy rate would have reached 100 percent. Now there are more rooms,” he said.
Presently, Jakarta sees a significant spike in Covid-19 cases. There were 5,014 new infections on Monday, June 21. Even the day before, the city recorded the highest Covid-19 daily rise with 5,582 cases since the first cases were detected in March last year.
Due to the surge in Covid-19 patients, the occupancy rate of isolation beds in Covid-19 referral hospitals in Jakarta has now reached 90 percent albeit the city administration of Anies Baswedan continued to increase the capacity.
