TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Maritime Museum, House of Si Pitung (Rumah si Pitung) in Marunda, North Jakarta is closed this weekend, on June 19-20.

"[It will be] reopened on June 22," said the announcement posted on Jakarta Culture Department Instagram page on Friday, June 18.

The temporary closure aims to strengthen the health protocols. The public is hoped to be able to take parts in stop the Covid-19 spread.

Jakarta Covid-19 cases are rising high following Eid holiday. The hospital bed occupancy increases to 90 percent from previously only 17 percent in May.

On June 17 and 18 alone, the number of daily covid cases added to more than 4,000 people per day, or increased twofold from the average case a week before.

Governor Anies Baswedan asks the people of Jakarta to refrain from conducting outdoor activities on the weekend, in order to suppress the spread of Covid-19 transmission.

Sports activities that are potential to create crowds are banned, and museums are also closed.
