TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas will reportedly depart for Saudi Arabia at the end of August in preparation for the 2022 hajj pilgrimage.
Citing Antaranews, the minister wrote in a statement on June 17, stating that “We will soon travel there to obtain the permit from the Saudi Arabian government.”
The Minister asserted that the government decided to take quicker steps and early anticipations for an unexpected scenario which has happened this year.
The Indonesian government has cancelled the hajj pilgrimage this year after Saudi Arabia did not open its borders nor has it provided a clear hajj quota for Indonesia. He encouraged people to remain patient and pray for the government’s attempt to make next year’s hajj possible.
“We don’t know when this pandemic will end. We have canceled the hajj departures twice. Therefore, we must anticipate everything earlier for the following year,” said the Religious Affairs Minister.
