TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo today, June 16, monitored the mass Covid-19 vaccination for financial sector players at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta.
On that occasion, the President hoped for the mass inoculation to be accelerated in a bid to soon achieve herd immunity.
“So the herd immunity among the financial services sector can be achieved at least in August,” he said as broadcasted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 16.
To achieve the goal, he said the government was determined to administer 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to people working in the financial service sector this week.
Apart from the financial sector, other sectors are also expected to push for inoculation. The government targeted to administer one million doses of Covid-19 vaccines per day starting July.
“Previously, it was 500,000 injections per day. Later in early July 2021, it must reach 1 million injections per day,” said the state head.
On Monday, June 14, the President set a target for Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and city officials to complete the Covid-19 vaccination for 7.5 million residents by August.
“This is indeed a very ambitious target, but like it or not, we have to go there to achieve herd immunity,” said Jokowi while monitoring the mass vaccination in Rusun Tanah Tinggi, Jakarta, on Monday.
