TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1442 Hijri, the Government of Depok City, West Java, issued a Circular regarding the implementation of qurban or animal sacrifice during the Covid-19 pandemic. “It is recommended that qurban must be performed under the health protocols to prevent virus exposure or transmission,” said Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris in a statement on Wednesday, June 16.
The circular released on June 10 mandates the reference for the sale of sacrificial animals and the slaughter process that must be adjusted to the procedures in the adaptation to new habits in the wake of the pandemic.
Stalls or shops selling sacrificial animals must apply the predetermined health protocols, not disturb public order, and fulfill aspects of human health and animal health. The health protocols must be applied to prevent virus transmission at the sites.
The circular also emphasizes that the slaughter process can be done at slaughterhouses (RPH-R) under strict health protocols. The butchers must also present a negative result of their rapid antigen test or PCR swab test.
The operator must also have an animal health certificate and be responsible for waste management. Performing qurban outside the RPH must be with permission from the local sub-district head.
The circular issued by Depok Mayor is also a follow-up to the Agriculture Ministerial Regulation on qurban, Environment and Forestry Ministerial Regulation on standards of community service, and the Depok Regional Regulation.
