COVID-19 Surge; Jakarta Deputy Gov Confirms Bed Occupancy Rate Hits 65%

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria appealed to residents of the capital city to stay vigilant as COVID-19 cases are raging again. Riza said the hospital bed occupancy rate in Jakarta has now reached 65 percent.
“This is a warning for Jakarta residents that there is an increase [of COVID cases] in recent days,” said Riza in Jakarta, Friday, June 11. He informed that as of Thursday, 4,276 hospital beds and 630 ICU rooms, or 58 percent, had been occupied.
“So all residents, please pay attention. There has been a fairly significant hike in the occupancy rate of hospital beds, ICU, and the number of people exposed to COVID,” Riza said.
He mentioned that Jakarta now had 106 COVID referral hospitals, 290 district health community centers, 44 sub-district health community centers, and 144,700 health workers.
According to him, the provincial government is striving to monitor virus transmission in the neighborhood unit (RT) level, shopping centers, offices, and business places by conducting testing, tracing, and treatment.
The Jakarta Health Office on Thursday recorded a high daily surge in COVID-19 cases. A total of 2,096 people tested positive for the disease as the city held PCR tests on 15,775 people.
