TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Secretary-General Maulana Yusran welcomed the Jakarta government’s decision to allow live music performances in restaurants and hotels. Maulana was optimistic that the entertainment business would revive.
“This restriction which has lasted more than a year will certainly have a big impact on the entertainment business,” said Maulana in Jakarta, Thursday, June 10
The Jakarta Provincial Government earlier announced that it has allowed restaurants and hotels to present live music performances amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The policy was noted in the Decree of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Head No. 381 of 2021 on the extension of the micro-scale community activity restriction or Micro PPKM for the tourism business sector.
The decree signed by the agency’s acting head Gumilar Ekalaya on May 31, 2021, includes a number of rules. It is said that hotels or restaurants must obtain a tourism business certification (TDUP) to hold a live show.
It is also regulated that the number of musical group personnel must be adjusted to the stage area, and the event organizer must install barriers to prevent visitors from going up to the stage and contributing a song.
Maulana said the policy was expected to encourage job creation in the entertainment business. He also reminded hotel and restaurant businesses providing live music performances to keep complying with the health protoco. “If [the public compliance with] the health protocol is poor and then Covid-19 cases increase, we all will lose,” he added.
