BNPB to Stop Funding Self-isolation Hotels; Jakarta Prepares Alternatives

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Agency on Thursday guarantees Covid-19 patients currently undergoing self-isolation in appointed hotels can continue using the facility until they recover from the virus.
This came after news about the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced it would stop financing the operational costs for coronavirus isolation hotels starting on June 15.
Head of the Jakarta Disease Prevention and Control Dwi Oktaria said the government will only stop receiving patients 10-days prior to the contract’s expiration date.
“So current patients can continue their isolation period,” said Dwi to Tempo on Wednesday, June 9.
The central government plans to stop financing the operational costs of accommodating patients in hotels and other appointed self-isolation facilities starting on June 15 due to the drying budget from the BNPB.
This means if Jakarta wishes to continue using hotels as self-isolation facilities they would have to cover the costs, which the Jakarta health agency said has prepared mitigation plans by preparing various isolation facilities.
The second scenario Jakarta has prepared, which will be based on the severity of the demands, is to increase the capacity of sports arenas (GOR) used as Covid-19 self isolations.
