TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bali State Electricity Firm (PLN) Distribution Holding Unit reported 380 power outages for the past three years which were mainly caused by kites.
Senior manager of the company, Zufar, accompanied by spokesperson I Made Arya on Wednesday announced that 2019 saw 72 power outages caused by rogue kites while 2020 saw 291 instances. There are even already 17 cases in 2021 up to June 6,
PLN Bali strongly urges local residents to continue the recreational activity in locations that are safer and far from the reach of electrical supplies and public highways.
“Large-sized kites should not be flown since if one of these get tangled in electric grids it will certainly cause power outages in crucial facilities such as hospitals, airports, and other vital national objects,” he said.
Zufar reminds Bali residents to report to PLN call center 123 or through the mobile app ‘PLN Mobile’ if they find kites getting tangled in the electrical grid.
