Teacher of Religious Studies in Jakarta Nabbed over Child Molestation

8 June 2021 15:44 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta Police arrested a teacher of religious studies identified as Heru Sucianto (58) for child molestation against five of his students in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

Upon his arrest, the suspect attempted to flee from his house after he knew that the victims' parents had filed a police report on Friday last week.

“The suspect was arrested on Monday evening and was taken to the North Jakarta Police for further investigation,” said the North Jakarta Police Deputy Chief Adj. Comm. Nasriadi to Tempo on June 8.

Police conducted a manhunt against the religious studies teacher on Monday and eventually found his whereabouts in Cengkareng, West Jakarta. At that time, Sucianto did not resist the arrest and had confessed on the spot.

Police are currently investigating the case by questioning the suspect and potentially finding new victims of his heinous crime.
