TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Prison Security Unit (KPR) Fauzi said on Thursday, June 3, 2021, that Syahril Parlindungan Marbun, the perpetrator of a sexual assault case in a Church, has been subjected to disciplinary punishment in an isolation cell from June 3 to June 14, 2021. The punishment was served following the fact that Syahril remains active on social media despite being imprisoned.
Fauzi added that there are suggestions to give Syahril harsher punishment such as "not eligible for rights such as [prison] amnesty among with other rights regarding integration," Fauzi said on Thursday, June 3, 2021.
Syahril was transferred to an isolation cell at 00:29 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on June 3, 2021, and his phone, which he had used to actively update his social media account, was confiscated as evidence.
Azaz Tigor Nainggolan, legal attorney for Syahril's harassment victims, said that Syahril's actions is a clear violation of Article 4 of the Law and Human Rights Ministry No.6/2013 on code of conducts in state prisons and penitentiary.
The lawyer urged prison management to act firmly against the inmate's violation.
Syahril Parlindungan Marbun is a former trustee at the Paroki Santo Herkulanus Church who wrongfully used his influence to sexually assault young altar servers in the Church. He was arrested on Sunday, June 14, 2020 after a police investigation that found the suspect had assaulted 20 boys.
