TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said he wanted to develop a tour package that offers Covid-19 vaccines in a bid to boost tourist visits to local destinations, such as Bali and Bintan. This vaccine tour package is adopted from programs applied by other countries including the United States.
“In the last two weeks, promotions of vaccine-based tourism have been circulating in America and other destinations at affordable prices and have become public limelight,” said Sandiaga in a press briefing at his office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, June 2.
He admitted to having received several proposals regarding the tour packages submitted by a number of tour agents. He has also asked the deputy minister to follow it up by discussing the matter with relevant ministries and institutions.
Based on the scheme, the tour package allows the public to get free Covid-19 vaccines in tourist cities. Thus, the ministry believed that there will be money circulation from spending on goods, food, and accommodations in destinations where the tour package is implemented.
Besides driving the economic growth in the tourism sector, the program is predicted to prevent people from purchasing vaccine tour packages abroad.
“We don’t want any leaks as there are vaccine packages to the U.S. and people flock to such access which possibly offers them vaccines while traveling,” said Sandiaga Uno.
