TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run pharmacy Kimia Farma secretary Ganti Winarno said his side had signed a deal with vaccine manufacturer Sinopharm to import 7.5 million doses that would be used in the so-called Gotong Royong vaccine program.
The private vaccination program kicked off on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, witnessed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
The vaccination program for workers is a collaboration program of the government and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) supported by various parties, including state pharmacy Bio Farma and its subsidiary Kimia Farma.
“The vaccine will arrive gradually,” said Ganti as quoted from the official website of the COVID-19 handling task force on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
According to him, more than 70,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine have been distributed to registered companies. “Hopefully, the Gotong Royong vaccination will help achieve herd immunity for 181.5 million Indonesians,” he said.
Ganti said the allocation of the vaccine would be adjusted to the current availability of the vaccine. However, he ensured Kimia Farma continued to prepare itself to make the private vaccination program a success, in terms of the cold chain, facilities, and infrastructures, including the human resources.
Meanwhile, Kadin has opened three phases of registration of the COVID-19 vaccination, and more than 10 million employees and their families have registered to get the shots.
