TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that scores of Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) personnel were deployed to secure the planned rally dubbed ‘Ruwatan Aksi untuk KPK’ or literally translated as "a purification act for the agency" this afternoon, May 28, 2021.

Acting KPK spokesman Ali Fikri said his side was informed about the upcoming rally based on a report from the police.

“Based on the information we received, [security personnel are mobilized] to safeguard vital objects including the KPK building. The police notify that there will be a demonstration in front of the KPK building,” Ali said on Friday, May 28.

As for the participation of the military members, Ali said the police needed additional personnel. However, he ensured that the security measure would be carried out in persuasive efforts.

“The personnel will surely apply persuasive efforts if there is a potential security disturbance,” Ali added.

The Merah Putih building of KPK was closely guarded by TNI-Polri personnel. Dozens of personnel have been on guard in the area since today morning. Reports circulated that the personnel were stationed following the rally which would take place from 14:00 to 16:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

Other than the personnel, the authorities also mobilized water cannons, Barracuda, mobile brigade or Brimob motorized vehicles, crowd control and dispersing vehicles, as well as TNI and Polri buses parked across the KPK main building.
