Health Ministry: Jakarta Gets Lowest Score in Handling Covid-19 Pandemic

27 May 2021 19:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaDeputy Health Minister Dante Saksono said that the performance of several regions in controlling the Covid-19 cases was bad, and can be categorized in the D and E grades. He mentioned that Jakarta got E.

The reasons, Dante explained, included the rising number of hospital bed occupancy rates (BOR) across the capital and poor tracking of cases.

"We see that many regions are able to control the condition, except Jakarta who gets E because the BOR in Jakarta has started to increase and the case tracing is not carried out well," said Dante in a hearing with Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

According to Dante, the quality range of a region in handling the pandemic is grade A as the best and grade E as the worst. If there is an increase in virus transmission among the community, it is vital to respond to it by strengthening the testing, tracing, and treatment.

If the response capacity fails to cope with the transmission rate, the region is required to enforce public activity restrictions. Referring to the map displayed by Dante, Jakarta was the only region that got E, while the majority of provinces received D, and only 10 provinces got C.

"Several regions have C. It means, the bed occupancy rate and the Covid-19 pandemic control are still good," Dante said.
