Papua Governor Lukas Enembe Undergoing Treatment in Singapore

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson for Papua Governor Lukas Enembe revealed on Thursday that the governor is currently being treated in Singapore due to an illness which disproved rumors about his death. The hoax previously spread through messaging apps.

“Papua Governor Lukas Enembe is undergoing treatment in Singapore,” said the spokesperson Rifai Darus in a written statement on May 27.

This rumor came after Deputy Governor of Papua Klemen Tinal passed away on Friday, May 21.

Rifai wrote that Governor Lukas urged people in Papua to fight against hoax that tends to be provocative. He also called for people to stop helping spread false information.

However, Rifai had not answered Tempo’s question about where and when Governor Lukas Enembe was treated in Singapore. The spokesperson called for people to help pray for Enembe’s swift recovery and said the governance in Papua continues as normal.
