TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati at Monday's House of Representatives (DPR) work meeting mentioned the plan to enact a second tax amnesty program, which she insists is an attempt to reach tax reform.
“In order to increase taxpayer compliance, we are fully aware that there had been a previous tax amnesty and from that there were signs of compliance that we must continue,” said the minister to DPR legislators on May 24.
She mentioned the use of data automatic exchange of information (AEol) and access towards tax information since 2018 in order to improve taxpayer compliance.
“Information access for 2018 on thousands of taxpayers will be followed up and what we will do later will surely use the laws that are in the tax amnesty,” she added.
Sri Mulyani said the government will focus more on improving tax compliance without creating a sense of injustice. Talks about the government preparing a possible second tax amnesty program attracted much discussion after it was mentioned by Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto last week.
Airlangga said tax amnesty will be included in the material that will be discussed in the revision of Law No.6/1983 on general tax provisions, which the government has sent the revised draft to the House of Representatives.
