TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tokopedia and Gojek saw potential transaction growth after the two giants of the digital business sector merged into GoTo Group. Chief Food Officer of Gojek Group Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo said the business line that focused on food, GoFood, would also experience an increase in orders.
“We cannot share about our target. But it is indeed an extraordinary opportunity,” said Catherine in a virtual press conference on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Catherine said the consolidation of the e-commerce platform and mobile on-demand service and payments platform would make it easier for people to access their daily needs, including food and beverages. This situation is said to be beneficial to driver-partners and merchants due to the growing markets.
Logistics Head of Gojek Group Steven Halim reported a 42 percent hike in transactions for the shipping business line in e-commerce in Ramadan 1442 Hijri following the merger.
“We hope the growth will continue along with the WIB (Indonesian Shopping Time) event [launched by Tokopedia],” Steven added.
Tokopedia Vice President of Marketplace Inna Chandika, meanwhile, said the unicorn also reported transaction growth due to the merger. Last Ramadan, there was a four-fold increase in the sales of fashion products compared to the average monthly transaction.
Additionally, the transaction growth occurred for charity fundraising. “Zakat, donations, and waqf collected through Tokopedia also reach Rp13 billion,” said Inna.
Until 2021, Inna said Tokopedia had around 11 million merchant partners and 95 percent of them are micro-entrepreneurs.
