TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police arrested two foreign citizens from England identified as ODE (39) and MM (32) for dodging the mandatory COVID-19 quarantine.

“Two of them escaped on their way to the hotel or the quarantine site upon arrival at the airport,” said Airport Police Chief Sr. Comr. Adi Ferdian Saputra on Friday, May 21.

The British couple arrived at the airport on May 7 boarding the Etihad EY-474 flight. Both had undergone health, immigration and other mandatory checks by the COVID-19 Task Force.

On their way to Jakarta Mercure Hotel on a vehicle provided by the hotel, they asked the driver to pull over as they needed to go to the toilet. “The driver allowed them but they fled, leaving their belongings in the car,” said Adi, adding that the driver returned to Terminal 3 and reported to the task force.

The Airport Police arrested them in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday, May 19. “They have traveled to various places in Indonesia,” Adi said.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration Special Class I Head Romi Yudianto said the two Britons entered Indonesia using visit visas to Bali. “We will deport them based on the Permenkumham (Law and Human Rights Ministerial Regulation).”
