TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday monitored the construction of the Jakarta - Bandung high-speed rail project, saying that he is confident about the progress as it is 73 percent complete.
“I witnessed the progress, and until today, that it has been 73 percent complete. It will enter the preparation for operations early next year,” he said Tuesday, May 18, at KM28 of Cikampek Toll.
He expressed optimism that the high speed railway connecting the capital city to Bandung can complete by the end of 2022. After the test trial, it will be ready for operations. The Jakarta-Bandung train will be integrated with the existing light rail transit (LRT) and mass rapid transit (MRT) in Jakarta.
Jokowi hoped that through this project, Indonesia can compete with other countries. He also hoped that the China-backed project can provide technology transfer to local workforces.
During the brief survey, President Joko Widodo was accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador for Indonesia.
