TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that the implementation of Covid-19 vaccination in Indonesia is still very far from the target. The government targeted to vaccinate around 181,500,000 people in order to achieve herd immunity.
“Until now, we have administered 23 million doses of vaccine. From the initial plan to administer approximately 380 million doses, this is still far [from target],” said the President while monitoring the Gotong Royong vaccination program in Cikarang of West Java today, May 18.
He hoped that the Gotong Royong vaccination program could help accelerate the government's effort to reach the target. In this independent program, corporations will procure the Covid-19 vaccine to be given free to workers and their families. At present, at least 22,736 companies have registered in the program with more than 10 million recipients.
The Gotong Royong vaccination program will be carried out in stages depending on the availability of the vaccines. A total of 420,000 doses of vaccines produced by China-based pharmacy Sinopharm will be used for the initial stage.
“We hope we will later get more vaccine supplies. We hope around 70 million people will already be vaccinated by August or September so that the Covid-19 curve will drop,” said Jokowi.
