TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tech unicorns, ride-hailing firm Gojek and e-commerce platform Tokopedia, have officially merged on Monday into a new entity called GoTo Group.
Andre Soelistyo will take the leadership position as GoTo CEO while Patrick Cao from Tokopedia is touted as GoTo president. Meanwhile, Kevin Aluwi will remain as Gojek CEO and William Tanuwijaya will continue as Tokopedia CEO.
GoTo CEO Andre Soelistyo said the birth of GoTo Group marked the next phase of growth of Gojek, Tokopedia and GoTo Financial.
He added that this would enable Gojek partners to earn higher revenues, mainly in the deliveries of Tokopedia users' orders. The benefits provided by the merger will also positively affect merchants from the two platforms, regardless of business scale.
“The presence of GoTo Group will enable us to push for financial inclusion in Indonesia and Southeast Asia,” said the CEO on May 17.
GoTo Group is claimed to be the largest business collaboration in Indonesia and the largest collaboration of two internet and media service companies in Asia thus far.
