TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The mayor of Tangerang city, Arief R. Wismansyah, on Monday said that his administration would continue its COVID-19 vaccination program for healthcare workers and senior citizens after the program was temporarily stopped during the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
He said the city had at least 36 thousand available vaccine doses that were ready to be distributed to its residents during the vaccination program.
“We have begun again after stopping it due to the national holidays,” said the mayor in Banten province on May 17.
The mayor reiterated the central government’s goal for vaccinating the elderly that sought to suppress the number of deaths related to the coronavirus. Thus, he urged residents under this group to get their vaccine shots.
Tangerang will also subject teachers and school employees to the vaccination program in preparation for the in-school activities slated for July this year. According to the local authority’s data, there are 96,789 people who have participated in the city’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
