Antam Ventures into Nickel Smelter Industry, Establishes New Partners

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned mining firm PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) and member of the state mining holding MIND ID have signed a heads of agreement for the development of nickel smelters with Alchemist Metal Industry Pte, Ltd. and PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry on May 6.
The heads of agreement marked the new smelter business for Antam in the area of north Konawe and North Morowali in Southeast Sulawesi.
MIND ID CEO, Orius Petrus Moedak, in a written statement on May 7, stated that, “Partnership between Antam and its strategic partners will increase the added value of minerals and optimize the company’s contribution for the country.”
The HoA marks a new milestone in the company’s history in maximizing Indonesia’s nickel resources, which also aligns with the downstream of the commodity that the Indonesian government is currently pushing for.
Alchemist Metal is a Singapore-based firm while Gunbuster Nickel is currently working on developing a nickel smelter in North Morowali with a total investment of US$2.7 billion.
