TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian and Malaysian governments continued to finalize the cooperation in managing the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in the domestic sector in Malaysia.
The cooperation is still being discussed as Malaysia’s response to the initial draft of MoU sent by Indonesia in September 2016 had been just submitted in August 2020.
“The Indonesian government has asked again if the discussion on MoU renewal can be held immediately and reach a win-win solution. I hope we can complete this MoU in accordance with each country’s guidance,” said Indonesian Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah in a video conference with her Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Saravanan Murugan as quoted in a written statement on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
Ida hoped that the two countries could finish the MoU renewal on the domestic sector based on the One Channel Recruitment scheme. “We hope the management of the migrant workers' placement in the domestic sector in Malaysia can take place via a channel or mechanism agreed by the two governments so that it can be easier to control and supervise [workers] in the future,” she added.
Malaysian Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Saravanan Murugan, meanwhile, supported the measures to be taken. His side will also introduce an application to help Indonesian domestic workers in Malaysia.
