TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the government’s Eid homecoming or mudik ban that takes effect today, May 6, the Jakarta Police asked 725 vehicles to turn around as they attempted to go on homecoming trips. The vehicle check was conducted in Cikarang Barat toll gate and Cikupa toll gate.
“Based on data from 00:00 until 05:00, 317 vehicles in Cikarang Barat toll gate consisting of 233 private vehicles and 84 public vehicles [were asked to turn around],” said Jakarta Police Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo when asked for confirmation on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
At Cikupa toll gate, the police asked 408 vehicles with 359 private vehicles and 49 public vehicles to turn around. The police also detained three vehicles smuggling travelers.
One of the vehicles was a vegetable truck. It was caught at KM 31 of Cikarang toll road heading to Cikampek for hiding travelers among a pile of vegetables.
As widely announced, the government banned Eid homecoming from May 6-17, 2021, in an effort to prevent Covid-19 transmission. Sambodo said his side had also closed the Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) elevated toll road following the ban.
