TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police suggested temporarily closing tourist areas in the Greater Jakarta Area during the Eid holiday, when people are restricted from traveling outside the city. The police made the suggestion during a coordination meeting with the Jakarta Military Comman and the capital government today, May 4.
"We asked the Tourism Office to, if possible, close the venues like last year," Jakarta Police's head of operation bureau Sr. Comr. Marsudianto said in South Jakarta.
Nevertheless, Marsudianto said the police would also consider inputs from the Ministry of Tourism, should they want tourist sites to operate during the Eid holiday.
Marsudianto said there are mechanisms that can be implemented to prevent crowds from gathering.
Meanwhile, the government has officially banned Eid homecoming travels during this year's Eid, from May 6 to 17, to prevent Covid-19 infections from rising.
