TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The service of Indonesian telecommunication company (PT Telkom Indonesia) in Jayapura, Papua, was disrupted on Friday night, April 30, at 19:40.
The disruption was due to the disconnection at the submarine cable of Biak-Sarmi line of the Sulawesi Maluku Papua Cable System (SMPCS).
“We're so sorry for the inconvenience for the customer and the people in Jayapura and the vicinities who are affected,” said Telkom Vice President of Corporate Communication, Pujo Pramono, in a written statement on Saturday, May 1.
Pujo said telephone and SMS services had returned to normal on the same day at 22:45. Meanwhile, the data services; either fixed or mobile broadband, were still in the quality recovery process. It is done gradually by optimizing the satellite capacity, IP terrestrial radio communication system, as well as supports from other infrastructures, including the utilization of East Palapa Ring network.
"We're trying to speed-up [the recovery process] to restore the service quality," said Pujo regarding the Telkom services in Jayapura, Papua.
