  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo ratified presidential regulation No.29/2021 on changes to presidential regulation (Perpres) No.1/2019 overseeing the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). The changes will allow members from the police and military institutions to fill the position as BNPB Emergency Management Deputy.

The Perpres No.29/2021 presents changes in Article 73 in Perpres No.1/2019 into: “Positions within positions of implementers are filled by professional state apparatuses and experts that comply with existing legislations.”

The changes also specifically state that the law overseeing those who has the right to fill the position exempt BNPB Emergency Management Deputy and explicitly allow National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) personnel to take the position.

President Jokowi initially ratified the Perpres on April 19, 2021, and then turned it into law one day after. The Presidential regulation was made effective on April 20.
