TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) expressed appreciation for the Jakarta administration’s swift action against Blessmiyanda, an alleged perpetrator of sexual harassment who was the Jakarta Goods and Services Procurement Agency (BPPBJ) head.
“Imposing sanction is important in the enforcement. But prevention must also share the same importance to prevent any future recurrence,” said Komnas Perempuan member Tiastri Wiandani in a text message on Thursday.
Blessmiyanda no longer serves as the BPPBJ Head as Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan ‘deactivated’ his status in March 19 for the alleged sexual harassment against an employee. Not only has he been non-activated from the position he will also receive a 24-month 40 percent pay cut.
Wiandani believes the recurrences of sexual harassment cases in government institutions and workforce in general is due to the weak regulations and monitoring. She urged the government, which has interest in creating policy regulations that can prevent future workplace sexual harassment and violence.
Blessmiyanda was found guilty for violating the Government Regulation No.53/2010 on the disciplines of civil servants.
